What is involved?

This course is designed to fill a need within the industry for the recognition of cleaning carried out within healthcare premises (i.e. hospitals, clinics, surgeries).

The scheme is also the natural focus for those working within areas with the risk of cross-contamination and runs concurrently with and gives accreditation towards, the BICScCleaning Operators Proficiency Certification Scheme(s) (COPC for cleaning and FPCC for food premises plus others) which themselves, are intended to set and objective standard assessment of cleaning operatives in the cleaning industry.

In a similar way to these schemes, the HPCC scheme validates through the assessment of competence, the skills achieved by the individual following proper training that may be delivered in a multitude of methods. The HPCC sets the minimum standard of competence that must be achieved by the person involved in cleaning healthcare premises.

The operative who successfully undertakes and completes assessment in the HPCC and has been awarded a certificate, may be regarded as being fully trained and competent with respect to the skills they have been assessed on. It should be noted however that the HPCC is an assessment scheme and not a training scheme.

The HPCC assessment kit contains 6 of the activities most commonly carried out by healthcare cleaning operatives in the course of their work. This is an assessment of their ability to clean in a healthcare environment.

• HC2 AA3 Storage of equipment
• HC3 A2 Single solution mopping
• HC4 D1 Damp wiping and washing
• HC5 F2 Waste clearance
• HC6 F4 Body fluid spillages and contaminated items
