First Aid at Work – Course Range
- ITC Level 2 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work - 6 hours (QCF)
- First Aid at Work - 18 hours (HSE)
- First Aid at Work Refresher - 12 hours (HSE)
- Basic Skills Refresher - 3 hours
- ITC Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid - 12+ hours (QCF) (Satisfies Ofsted requirements and meets Early Years Foundation Stage)
Why Attend?
Employers need to provide First Aid care on their premises for staff and have a duty of care towards all visitors and users of their facilities.
These are practical courses to cover the topics required.
How Will Your Organisation Benefit?
These courses meet the First aid Requirements set by HSE or Satisfies Ofsted requirements and meets Early Years Foundation Stage.
Where Can It Be Delivered?
At one of our training centres or a room big enough for half of the group to lie down and be put into a Safe Airway position (Recovery Position) at the same time. Manakins, projector and all other equipment are provided as part of the package.
Emergency First Aid at Work:
On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:
- Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:
- the importance of preventing cross infection;
- the need for recording incidents and actions;
- use of available equipment;
- Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation cpr;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
- Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
First Aid at Work:
On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation cpr;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
- Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
- Administer first aid to a casualty with:
- injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries;
- chest injuries;
- burns and scalds;
- eye injuries;
- sudden poisoning;
- anaphylactic shock;
- Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).
- External examination of candidates.
First Aid at Work Refresher:
FAW requalification training should cover the topics of the full FAW course in sufficient detail to ensure students are competent on completion. External examination of candidates.
This 18-hour qualification is revalidated by completing a 2-day (12-hour) First Aid at Work Refresher qualification. As well as full attendance each candidate is continually assessed on each section of the programme and then has to complete an external examination, according to current HSE regulations. Candidates MUST supply their previous First Aid at Work qualification details before attending the course. If individuals book on, or are booked on by an employer, the course with an invalid certificate NO STATUTORY CERTIFICATE CAN BE ISSUED. The full FAW and Refresher FAW qualification have valid 3 year lifetimes. The Refresher FAW qualification may be completed up to 28 days past its expiry date.
Basic Skills Refresher course:
Annual 3-hour essential life saving skills refresher. This training is strongly recommended by the HSE for all who have completed a statutory 3-day First Aid at Work, a statutory 2-day First Aid at Work Revalidation, or a statutory 1-day Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
Candidates should demonstrate their competence to:
- Assess the situation in an emergency;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
- Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
- Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock.
ITC Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid:
Satisfies Ofsted requirements and meets Early Years Foundation Stage practice guidance and statutory guidelines.
